Introduction
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) invites young leaders from around the world to participate in the IRENA Youth Forum 2024 which will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The IRENA Youth Forum is a fully funded opportunity for youth to engage in the global energy transition and shape the future of renewable energy.
What is the IRENA Youth Forum?
The IRENA Youth Forum is an annual event organized by IRENA that brings together 200 young leaders from diverse backgrounds to engage in discussions on accelerating the global energy transition. The forum aims to empower youth, amplify their voices and foster multi-stakeholder collaboration on renewable energy and climate action.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
To be eligible for the IRENA Youth Forum 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: 18-29 years as of January 2024
- Education: Currently enrolled in/recently graduated from an undergraduate or postgraduate program
- Leadership experience: Demonstrated leadership in renewable energy, sustainability or related fields
- Innovation skills: Passion for renewable technologies, policy solutions or business models
- Diversity: Gender, geographical and cultural diversity will be prioritized

Application Process
Interested candidates can apply online at www.irenayouthforum.org. The application process involves:
- Completing the online application form
- Submitting a resume/CV and motivation letter
- Providing 2 letters of recommendation
- Responding to short essay questions
The deadline for applications is 15 February 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 30 March 2024 and will need to confirm participation by 15 April 2024.

Program Structure and Activities
The Program agendas Explained
The 5-day program in Abu Dhabi will include the following activities:
Day 1 – Opening Ceremony and Keynote Speeches
Youth delegates will be welcomed to the forum with speeches from IRENA leadership and global decision makers.
Day 2 – Expert Panel Discussions and Interactive Workshops
Delegates will participate in panel discussions on renewable energy trends and innovative solutions. Hands-on workshops will focus on skills like public speaking, project design etc.
Day 3 – Country Visits and Site Tours
Excursions will be arranged to explore Abu Dhabi’s renewable projects including solar farms and green buildings. Delegates will gain insights on the UAE’s clean energy transition.
Day 4 – Working Group Sessions and Project Development
Delegates will work in multinational teams to develop youth-led renewable energy projects or initiatives. Teams will prepare and present their proposals.
Day 5 – Closing Ceremony and Commitments
Teams will present their projects to a panel of judges. The forum will conclude with a closing address and commitment ceremony reiterating support for global climate action.
