Nigerians and others face tighter UK visa requirements

The UK tightened family visas for Nigeria, Ghana, India, and others.

Under the new restrictions, partners and children will not automatically receive visas with main applicants. The dependent applications will be evaluated individually.

The UK government wants to minimise net migration and feels too many visas are provided to family members who join or follow others.

Under approved government recruitment programmes, healthcare workers entering the UK are excluded from the new requirement. Family members can join them.

Critics say this might hurt international students and healthcare recruits from affected countries. Supporters say it reduces low-skilled immigration.

Nigeria and other impacted nations are disappointed by UK family visa limits.

As part of its new immigration regulations, the UK has tightened dependant visa restrictions for some nationalities. Exempt groups include healthcare workers and students.
